- Role of the medical writer throughout the life-cycle of a pharmaceutical product
- Explanation of the different types of documents that we write, with more detailed information on some of the most common (e.g. clinical study protocols and reports, investigator brochures, CTDs, manuscripts, posters)
- Finding a job as a medical writer (qualities and qualifications required), types of companies that employ medical writers, recruitment process, working as a freelancer
- Training and networking for medical writers
Members of the public who wish to attend the seminar should approach the EMWA Staff at the Conference registration desk who will issue them with a temporary badge and direct them to the seminar room.

There are significant differences in approach, when communicating with children and their caregivers compared to adults. Differences in terms of priorities, understanding, accessibility, and appropriateness must all be considered when communicating with this population.
This session will have speakers including; patient advocates, a parent, a regulatory writer, a regulatory professional, and a healthcare professional. There will be presentations describing the stakeholders’ contribution to document design; and how “informed” the consent and assent processes are in practice. In addition, we will look at how regulatory requirements are communicated in the child’s voice to ensure understanding; and which new techniques the professionals are employing to ensure this unique cohort is both heard and involved.
Our speakers bring diversity in their personal and professional perspectives in communicating with children and their caregivers.

The medical writing industry, and clients’ expectations of medical writers, are rapidly evolving. Medical writing agencies and the medical writers who work for them are increasingly expected to work on projects that go beyond core medical writing activities. This can include providing broader business solutions and creating strategies to overcome specific challenges with aligned global and local content. Effective localisation of medical writing must involve consideration of cultural nuances, not simply translating text into native languages. Furthermore, increasing use of multichannel approaches also means that medical writers must be comfortable with creating content for various digital platforms, including understanding how they work and their audience’s expectations. Finally, the explosion of artificial intelligence means medical writers must learn new skills to remain competitive, and may need to collaborate with developers/IT professionals involved in developing new tools to support the future of the industry.
