Ulrike brings a unique combination of scientific expertise, professional experience and extensive hands-on knowledge of website development and management. Over the course of her career, she has been responsible for the website of a small biotech company and later managed the website of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. She has also created and developed websites for both her own freelance business and her husband’s work as a musician.
With more than 30 years of experience using the internet, Ulrike has a strong understanding of how users navigate and interact with online content, as well as what they need to be able to find information quickly and easily. Her ability to bring together scientific and professional knowledge with a clear understanding of the user experience will be a valuable asset to EMWA’s digital presence.
Ulrike studied biology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, completing her PhD in 1994, and went on to conduct research at the Institute for Immunology in Erlangen, the National Institute for Medical Research in London, and INSERM U 488 in Paris.
Her career has included research and development in veterinary diagnostics, scientific communication and policy making at the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and almost 15 years at EUROIMMUN Medizinische Labordiagnostika AG, where she was Head of the Research Funding Department and Scientific Editor. Since 2024, she has worked as a freelance medical writer based in Hamburg, Germany.
As Webmanager, Ulrike will bring her broad experience and user-focused perspective to EMWA’s website, helping ensure that our online content remains informative, accessible and relevant to members.
