Catriona Ester

Catriona is medical writer at the European Medicines Agency (EMA). She has a PhD in biochemistry and almost 30 years of experience in medical communications.

Her career in medical writing started many years ago while working in the lab. She came to realise that pipettes and cells were not for her – what she enjoyed most was working with words and languages. Following her PhD at the University of Bath, Catriona moved to Amsterdam to work as a publications manager for a medical communications agency. She later set up her own medical translation and editing business and taught academic writing at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Before joining EMA, Catriona spent 6 years at the Dutch HIV Monitoring Foundation as communications manager.

As a medical writer, Catriona enjoys the challenge of making science easy to understand and strongly believes that clear writing benefits everyone, from patients and their carers to doctors and researchers.
