Description

As AI tools become increasingly embedded in medical writing workflows, the ability to design effective prompts is emerging as a critical professional skill. This interactive 3.5-hour workshop is designed for medical writers who want to move beyond AI theory and focus on practical application, experimentation, and real-world use cases across regulatory and scientific writing.
The workshop will begin with a concise introduction to AI-enabled writing tools, emphasizing how writers interact with these systems rather than how they work internally. Participants will be introduced to core principles of prompt design and will see live examples demonstrating how different prompting approaches can significantly influence output quality, traceability, and usability in medical writing and publication tasks.
Participants will then be split into breakout groups based on their primary area of interest—regulatory medical writing or scientific/publication writing—and will actively design and refine prompts tailored to realistic scenarios. The hosts of the workshop will guide discussions, challenge assumptions, and help attendees iterate on their prompts with a focus on clarity, control, and risk awareness.
The workshop will conclude with a group debrief to share insights, followed by a forward-looking discussion on emerging AI applications, automation opportunities, and how the medical writer’s role is evolving—from content creator to business owner, validator, and strategic decision-maker in AI-enabled environments.
