The session will act as a guide to support medical writers with how to effectively integrate AI into their working practices at the same time as developing the human-specific writing skills needed to effectively operate in a changing environment.
Context: Medical writing is evolving with AI, which can automate routine tasks but struggles with complex scientific judgment and strategy. Medical writers should focus on roles that leverage human expertise and strategic skills to direct, validate, and contextualize AI-generated content.
AI automates routine tasks: AI can produce outlines and first drafts, summarize studies, edit grammar, extract information, and generate standard medical communications, potentially impacting writers focused on these tasks.
Human skills remain essential: AI struggles with scientific judgment, critical appraisal, regulatory nuances, adapting messaging, publication strategy, relationship building, and ensuring ethical integrity, where medical writers can differentiate themselves.
Future-proofing careers: Writers should become AI-enabled, deepen scientific expertise, engage in strategy, excel at expert review, and develop interpersonal and leadership skills to thrive in transformed medical writing roles.
Dr Tim Hardman is Founder and Managing Director of Niche Science & Technology Ltd., the UK-based CRO he established in 1998 to provide tailored, science-driven support to pharmaceutical and biotech companies. With more than 25 years’ experience in clinical research, he has built Niche into a trusted early-phase development partner for start-ups and established companies worldwide. Tim is Chairman of the Association of Human Pharmacology in the Pharmaceutical Industry (AHPPI) and a Board member and former President of EUFEMED (2021–2023). He also contributes to the Pharmaceutical Contract Management Group (PCMG) and holds an honorary fellowship at St George’s Medical School. He regularly comments on clinical research, regulatory innovation and AI.
Dr Namrata Singh is a paediatrician, medical writer, and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience across clinical practice, regulatory writing, and scientific communications. As Founder and CEO of Turacoz Group, an ISO-certified medical communications company, she leads teams that support pharmaceutical, biotech, and MedTech clients worldwide with publications, clinical trial documentation, and medical education. In this role she is closely involved in how AI is changing medical writing in practice, including how teams can use these tools responsibly while keeping scientific accuracy, transparency, and ethical publication standards. She is President-Elect of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA). She holds an MBA and is based in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Registration fee first
The conference registration fee (€50) must be in your basket before any session can be added. It is one off and covers the opening session and the plenary.

Changes to registration
Changes may be made to workshop or seminar choices after booking (that is, a cancellation of one workshop or seminar choice and replacement by another), for an administrative fee of €27, plus any difference in price between the choice of workshops or seminars. Workshops, seminars and lunchtime sponsored sessions may be added to your original registration (subject to availability) at any time, without an administrative fee by contacting info@emwa.org. All changes are subject to availability.
Cancellation of attendance
If you wish to cancel your attendance at the conference, a refund, minus an administration fee of €162, will be made provided your cancellation is made in writing to EMWA head office before 20 October 2026. No refunds will be made after this date.
Payments
Invoices must be settled by bank transfer in Euro, or paid by card through Stripe. All fees are payable in advance. Full payment is due by 30 October 2026. If payment has not been received, EMWA reserves the right to request payment and cancel registration.
