Embracing the Brave New World: Building AI Systems to Transform Medical Communication and Scientific Writing

The medical communications landscape is undergoing a paradigm shift as AI technologies become central to addressing the accelerating pace of evidence generation and the inefficiencies of traditional content development workflows. As organisations embrace this transformation, medical writers and communication specialists face new challenges in maintaining compliant and high-quality deliverables while adapting to AI-augmented processes. This session examines the essential technical and operational foundations needed to achieve meaningful AI integration in scientific writing and medical communications. We’ll explore how structured content frameworks, semantic enrichment, and standardised workflows enable organisations to build reliable and reproducible AI systems that enhance rather than compromise content quality. Through practical examples, we’ll demonstrate how these foundational elements support compliant content creation while transforming traditional author-reviewer dynamics. The session will address the evolving expectations from partners and stakeholders, offering insights into how medical communication professionals can prepare for and thrive in this transformed ecosystem. We’ll examine both the immediate practical considerations and the longer-term strategic implications of AI adoption in scientific writing, helping professionals navigate this transition while maintaining the high standards demanded by the healthcare industry.

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Current challenges in evidence management workflows and the imperative for evolution
  • Technical foundations needed to achieve reliable and reproducible AI systems
  • How roles and stakeholder dynamics will transform in an AI-augmented ecosystem
  • Practical steps toward implementing AI while maintaining quality and compliance
