Career development in regulatory medical writing: The practical experience
Authors: Douglas Fiebig, Eva Kestner
Career development in medical writing requires a structured approach that combines theoretical training with learning-by-doing. Initially, our trainee writers undergo foundational training to establish baseline knowledge. Most of their growth then occurs through practical engagement in ongoing projects under close mentorship, where they can progress from simple to more complex tasks and take on increasing responsibility. Development from trainee to principal writer is not only defined by writing skills but also by an ability to manage projects and writing teams.
Our formal career path includes descriptions of the professional achievements and responsibilities, training objectives, and years of experience that are required to progress to the next level. Through a supportive corporate culture, we aim to promote individual growth and encourage our writers to shape their careers in line with their strengths and goals while serving the interests of the company.
